Guided Visit to the Cairo Genizah Collections
Cambridge University Library

11:00am – 1:00pm, Wednesday 15 April 2026

Join us for an exclusive guided visit to the Cairo Genizah Collections at Cambridge University Library, home to more than 190,000 manuscripts preserved for centuries in the Ben Ezra Synagogue in Old Cairo. The Genizah offers an unparalleled insight into everyday life, scholarship and community across the medieval Jewish and wider Mediterranean world.

The tour includes a curated selection of manuscripts, with expert guides introducing the stories behind personal letters, legal documents, poems, religious texts, and other remarkable fragments. You will also learn how the collection was recovered, conserved and digitised.

The visit will conclude with light refreshments.

Tickets (including refreshments): £10.  Participants will be responsible for their own travel to the library.
